Use of organic acids to reduce Salmonella Typhimurium excretion in swine

چکیده

The use of antimicrobials as growth promoters and disease prevention is being constantly reduced in several animal production systems, including the swine industry. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate effectiveness using acidifiers control Salmonella Typhimurium 65-day-old pigs by detecting pathogen organs at euthanasia. For this, 24 piglets were divided into two experimental groups consisting 12 each. An untreated group (G1) a treatment (G2) received liquid organic acidifier drinking water for 10 days (D-5 D5). Five after start (D0), all challenged with 106 CFU assessed (D12). Every three (D3, D6, D9, D12), animals from each euthanized then submitted necropsy. Samples intestines (ileum, cecum, mesenteric lymph nodes, ileocolic nodes), liver, spleen, lungs collected isolate Salmonella. results show that, numerically, isolation G2 was lower than G1 that number positive cecum samples (66.7%; 8/12) statistically different models (16.7%; 2/12), reduction 28.6% total treated compared control. it observed product could reduce colonization Typhimurium.

Effect of organic acids and mannanoligosaccharide on excretion of Salmonella typhimurium in experimentally infected growing pigs.

The effect of organic acids and mannanoligosaccharide addition to the diet was assessed in pigs orally inoculated with Salmonella typhimurium. Forty-six growers were distributed among four treatments: Basal Diet (BD); BD+encapsulated organic acids; BD+free organic acids; BD+mannanoligosaccharide. Seroconversion was monitored, and feces and tissue samples were tested for Salmonella isolation. No...

Iron-regulated excretion of alpha-keto acids by Salmonella typhimurium.

Excretion of alpha-keto acids by clinical isolates and laboratory strains of Salmonella typhimurium was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis of culture supernatants. The levels of excretion increased markedly with increasing iron stress imposed by the presence of alpha,alpha'-dipyridyl or conalbumin in the medium. The major product was pyruvic acid, but significant conc...

Use of acetic and citric acids to control Salmonella Typhimurium in tahini (sesame paste).

Since tahini and its products have been linked to Salmonella illness outbreaks and product recalls in recent years, this study assessed the ability of Salmonella Typhimurium to survive or grow in commercial tahini and when hydrated (10% w/v in water), treated with 0.1%-0.5% acetic or citric acids, and stored at 37, 21 and 10 °C for 28 d. S. Typhimurium survived in commercial tahini up to 28 d b...

Characterization of Salmonella Typhimurium isolates associated with septicemia in swine.

Salmonella Typhimurium is frequently isolated from pigs and may also cause enteric disease in humans. In this study, 33 isolates of S. Typhimurium associated with septicemia in swine (CS) were compared to 33 isolates recovered from healthy animals at slaughter (WCS). The isolates were characterized using phenotyping and genotyping methods. For each isolate, the phage type, antimicrobial resista...
